Keene State’s Field Hockey team came out with a dominant 10-0 win in the Little Eastern Conference (LEC) against the first-year team from the University of Massachusetts-Boston (UMass Boston) on Saturday, Oct. 25. The win followed a 3-2 loss to Roger Williams and a pre-game honoring of the team’s seniors as it was senior day.

The first period really set the stage for how this game was going to go. UMass Boston recorded only one shot made the whole period, compared to the 14 that the Owls made. Five minutes into the period, Keene State scored the first of many goals this game, this one made by senior midfielder Grace Seabury, her sixth of the season, who also had 12 shots and 10 shots-on-goal this game. Another five minutes went by and the Owls scored again, this time by junior forward Norah Bargatti, her first career goal, and was assisted by senior midfielder Elyse Picard. Quarter one came to an end with a score of 2-0.

The second quarter did not go any better than the first one for UMass Boston, with 11 shots by Keene and zero being made by the opposing team. Of all those shots made by Keene State, one of them was successful with four minutes to go before halftime. The goal was made by sophomore midfielder Emma Bazin, her sixth goal this season, who was assisted by senior forward Meghan Daileanes. Over the course of the first half, the Owls outshot the Beacons 25-1 in the first 30 minutes of the game.

Coming out of the locker room, the Owls continued their dominant performance in the third quarter by making 15 shots, while UMass Boston had two, the most in a period the entire game. Nine minutes into the second half, the scoring continued for the Owls, with junior defender Lilah Carr scoring her third goal of the season to put the Owls up 4-0 over their opponent. Barely a minute later, first-year goalkeeper Tori Kelly made the only save by Keene in the game to prevent the Beacons from getting on the board. After Kelly’s save, first-year forward Chloe Donohue scored her first career goal with an assist from sophomore forward Elle MacDonald to make it 5-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Quarter four saw the Owls have the most shots all game, with 16 alone in the fourth. The scoring frenzy continued just 19 seconds into the last period of the game. Meghan Daileanes scored her 12th goal of the season here, assisted by MacDonald, to increase the gap. Daileanes also had 14 shots and 10 shots-on-goal in this game.

Another seven shots were made by the Owls before the next goal happened, this one made by Picard for her sixth goal of the season, assisted by Seabury. Another shot attempt by Keene was made, then they scored again. This time it was Donohue, her second of the season and game, assisted by junior defender Kayln Arnold on the score.

To round out the rest of the game, Carr scored again, her fourth on the season and second in the game, and was assisted by Seabury in the process. The final score came once again from Carr, her fifth on the season and third in the game, with just barely a minute left to go. The game came to a conclusion at the 60-minute mark with a final score of 10-0, all in favor of the Owls.

Keene State scored seven goals throughout the final 20 minutes of the game to reach the double-digits for the first time since Oct. 19, 2024, in a 10-3 home win over Western Connecticut State University. The top scorers of the game were Carr and Donohue, with three and two goals, respectively. The team moves to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the LEC; its next competition will be on the road on Oct. 27 at 6:00 PM against Vermont State Castleton in another LEC game.
