This week’s athlete of the week is Junior distance runner Maggie Fitter.

Fitter won two events at the Brandeis invitational me[singlepic id=705 w=320 h=240 float=right]et last Saturday.

Fitter took both the 800-meter run and the one-mile run.

She won the 800-meter run by a one second margin, with a time of 2:24.

The junior runner also won the one-mile run in 5:12.

Fitter is one of the top distance runners for the Owls this year, and looks to build off of this strong performance.

Honorable mention:

The first honorable mention is men’s swimmer Drew Ledwith.

Ledwith continued his streak of victories with several more wins at KSC’s sole home meet of the year versus Roger Williams University.

Ledwith claimed three more individual event victories and another as a part of a relay team.

Ledwith, typically a freestyle swimmer, branched out this week, winning two backstroke events.

He took first place in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, as well as the 500 yard freestyle swim once again.

Additionally, Ledwith swam one of the legs for the first place, men’s 200 yard medley relay team.

The second honorable mention this week is once again the women’s basketball team’s senior captain and starting forward, Courtney Cirillo.

Cirillo continues to impress as a focal point of the offense and the team’s defensive leader.

Cirillo led the Owls to a 6-1 record and their second straight conference win with their 65-51 victory over LEC rival UMass-Boston.

The senior forward shot 8-14 from the field and 3-6 from the free throw line to lead the Owls in scoring, with 19 points.

Cirillo controlled the boards with a team-high eight rebounds.

She complemented this with three assists, two blocks, and a steal.

Cirillo was a constant presence on the court, playing all 40 minutes of the contest.
