Keene State’s Women’s Soccer lost its first Little East Conference (LEC) game of the season 2-1 to Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) on Saturday, Sept. 12. Keene State entered the game with a 1-2-1 record, having won the preceding game against Gordon College, and now faced an undefeated ECSU.

ECSU opened up the first fifteen minutes of the game with four shots, though nothing was gained from them thanks to the efforts of first-year goalkeeper Michaela DiCiccio. Senior midfielder Elizabeth Tschudin made two shots in the opening half, though without any success. This was followed by another shot, made by first-year midfielder Hailey Goldman, though ECSU prevented a goal from happening. In the closing minutes of the first half, DiCiccio made two saves, though a shot from ECSU found its mark, making the score 1-0 going into the second half.

The Owls cranked the heat up to start the second half, having a couple of corner kicks, and managed to find success with a shot on goal. Junior midfielder Kaylee Cormier sent a throw to Tschudin, where she managed to sneak it in to tie the game 1-1. ECSU, over the course of the next several minutes, tried to regain the lead, though its shots all went off course. The Owls made their own attempts to take the lead, though nothing came of it as ECSU goalkeeper Alex Ignatowicz made two saves. Both Keene and ECSU’s goalkeepers spent the next minutes of the game making saves for their respective teams. With twelve minutes left in the game, ECSU found just enough momentum and in that moment, scored its second goal of the game to take the lead from Keene. Tschudin, within seconds, tried to even the score again, though no success was found there. Time ran out and the game ended with a final score of 2-1.

With the loss, Keene State moves to 1-3-1 on the season, while ECSU remains undefeated in its season. For their next game, the Owls travel away for a game on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 2:30 PM against the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.
