Maggie Goodlander, the Democratic candidate for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District U.S. Representative, defeated Republican candidate Lily Tang Williams during the state’s general election on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Goodlander will take the position from U.S. House Representative Annie Kuster, who announced in late March that she would not seek re-election in November. Kuster has served as a U.S. House Representative since 2013.
Goodlander’s win ensures the seat, which was rated as solidly Democratic by Cook Political Report, stays in the party’s hands for the next two years.
According to estimates from The Associated Press (conducted at 97% of votes reported), Goodlander won with 53.3%, against Tang Williams’ 46.7%. The race was called by the Associated Press at 1:07 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Tang Williams has called Goodlander to concede.
