As we head into this new semester, the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery readies itself with three new exhibitions heading to it.
The Thorne will open to students, staff and the public on Sept. 12, from four to six p.m. with a celebratory barbecue. All are welcome and they will have T-shirts for those who want one.
“It’s going to be fun and colorful”, said Paul McMullan, director of the gallery, when talking about the upcoming art being shown. “John Rasimus is from Sweden and makes prints all out of paper, it’s comical and fun,” said McMullan.
Rasimus is a print artist, flying in from Sweden to display his work at the Thorne and sit in on classes at Keene State. Art classes being held in the Thorne will have the opportunity to meet Rasimus and one other artist Sophie Isaak.
Isaak is a print artist from the University of Nebraska who will also be sharing her work. She had previously visited Keene State in 2021 where she curated a contemporary print exhibition.
The artist statement on Isaak’s website reads, “My work is bound to intense colors, awkward and surprising forms and idiosyncratic compositions. I utilize printmaking techniques, as well as drawing and painting, to convey spaces that are simultaneously intriguing and frightening.”
The other two exhibits coming to the Thorne are Isaak’s ‘If You Get Tired, Pull Over’ and Jean-Pierre Larocque’s documentary about Montreal.
“It’s a really good movie, [Larocque] from Montreal documented it and it just follows his career and what it’s like to be an artist in Canada,” said McMullan.
The documentary will be playing in the Thorne on a loop so anyone can walk in and watch.
The show will go from Sept. 12 to Oct. 24 this fall. McMullan encourages people to be on the lookout for upcoming works after this.
