Keene State College Women’s Volleyball secured a split on the day during an away game in Lewiston, Maine against both Bates College and Dean College.
KSC falls to Bates 3-1
The first game of the day was against Bates and showed the Owls struggling from the first set.
The first set started off promising for the Owls, with them and Bates swapping leads early on, but Bates quickly found their groove offensively, securing 11 kills and three service aces to KSC’s seven kills and zero service aces in the first set. Bates ultimately won the set 25-11.
The second set proved to be a narrower affair, with KSC netting eight kills and Bates again obtaining 11. Bates was also able to capitalize off seven errors committed by the Owls in the set, with the team committing four service errors and three attack errors. The Owls went on to fall short 18-25 in the set.
The third set began bleakly for KSC, with Bates securing four kills early on and at one point leading 21-13. However, the Owls fought back with an offensive onslaught, netting 12 points while Bates was left unable to respond. KSC won the set 25-21.
However, the fourth and final set showed Keene State falling behind Bates again, committing 12 attack errors in the set which contributed to a 25-12 loss.
All in all, KSC would drop the game 3-1 before facing Dean College.
Owls overtake Dean in 3-0 shutout
Coming off a loss, Keene State was able to turn the page and face Dean head-on.
The first set showed KSC securing 11 kills, as well as benefitting from a trio of attack errors committed by Dean in the latter half of the set followed by a trio of service aces on the Owls’ side. The offensive momentum powered KSC to a 25-19 win in the set.
The second set was a more decisive KSC victory, with four service aces, 11 kills and several attack errors committed by Dean. Keene State won the set 25-15.
The third and final set propelled KSC to a 25-15 win, propelled by eight service aces and seven kills.
Ultimately, the Owls won the game 3-0 and secured the split, leaving the day on a high note.
Next, Keene State will face Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Western New England College in another tri-match, this time held at Harrington Auditorium in Worcester, Mass.
