Despite being recognized officially by Keene State, in the eyes of the national organization the Delta Tau Delta chapter is not completely official yet.
Sophomore Charlie Baxter, director of recruitment, previously told The Equinox he hoped to be officially recognized by nationals by the end of the spring semester.
That date is now set for April 21, Baxter said in a recent interview.
“The University of Vermont chapter will come down along a handful of people from nationals to actually install us as a chapter here,” he said.
Brandon Carta, student center programs coordinator and Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) advisor said the members of Delta Tau Delta currently do not have all the rights and privileges of a fraternity member as they are not fully initiated.
Once their petition to charter is approved, all current members of Delta Tau Delta will become official members of the fraternity.
Members who join the organization before the April date will also be known as “founding fathers,” Carta said.
“If someone wants to be like a founding member of a fraternity, that is a very specific experience and not a lot of people get to do,” he said.
Baxter said to have the petition approved, the organization had to have 50% of the school’s average for fraternity members or 15 members.
With the recent fraternity recruitment period and continuous open bidding, Baxter said they were able to meet that 15-member threshold to file the petition to the national organization.
To stay on track to reach 15 members, Baxter said, “I think the biggest thing for us is having good events, right? If you don’t have good [and] fun events that kind of showcase what you are, people won’t want to join you.”
Since Baxter took the helm of the director of recruitment position, the organization has tripled in numbers, he said.
Baxter added at the time he joined in the spring of 2023, the organization only had five.
“[It] has been a lot of work, but it’s paid off,” Baxter said.
