The Keene State softball team knew that a victory against the State University of New York (SUNY) Canton would yield a significant accomplishment for their head coach, Carrah Fisk Hennessey.

The Owls opened their 2023 season with a 15- 0, five-inning win at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex on March 13. This victory marked Fisk Hennessey’s 100th career win at Keene State.

Fisk Hennessey said that although hitting the 100 career win mark is seen as a personal achievement, this never could have been done without her team. “I was just excited that we won our first game in South Carolina, and we were getting ready for the second game of the day and I was telling them what they needed to do to make sure that they were warmed up appropriately to attack our next game, and there were some sophomores that said, ‘Ok, Coach, we will, but first we have something to do,’” she said.

She continued, “They had known. This team had known that it was my 100th win, so they got the ball from the umpire at the end of the game and they all signed the ball, and that was the most meaningful thing, that I got to experience my 100th win with this group of people.”

Fisk Hennessey was named head coach of the softball team in 2015 after serving one season as an assistant coach. An alumni herself, Fisk Hennessey played on the 1999 Owls softball team that secured the programs’ first Little East Conference (LEC) championship win. The 1999 team was inducted into the KSC Hall of Fame in 2017.

She also holds several KSC records yet to be broken, including season home runs with 16 and runs batted in (RBIs) with 41. Fisk Hennessey is also second in career home runs with 24, according to the athletics website.

According to the athletic department website, Fisk Hennessey is the second Owl softball coach to eclipse the 100 career win mark. Charlie Beach, her former coach and longtime mentor, won 687 games from 1986 to 2014.

Keene State softball kicks off conference play at home on April 1 for a double-header against the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Boston at 1 and 3 p.m.
