Keene State Women’s Soccer played the Fighting Scots of Gordon College to a 1-2 loss on Sunday, Sept. 6, at home. The match was part of the Denise Lyons Kickoff Tournament, contested by Keene State, Gordon, Rochester and Wentworth. The Owls hit the turf with a record of 0-1-1, losing their home opener to Emerson 0-2 and tying Wentworth in a close defensive match the Saturday before. Gordon arrived with a record of 0-2, having lost their season opener to MIT and their previous game 0-6 to No. 19-ranked Rochester.
Keene State quickly drew first blood, with senior midfielder Elizabeth Tschudin scoring the first goal of the Owls’ season only three minutes into the contest. Tschudin was assisted by sophomore forward Kylie Rapoza and junior midfielder Kaylee Cormier. After a series of tight defensive plays, Gordon broke through and scored from just outside the box, tying the game 1-1. The goal was Gordon’s first in four games, breaking a streak that extended into the 2025 season. Despite the tied score, Keene State outshot Gordon through the first half with nine shots, and sophomore goalkeeper Allison Gough saved two shots on goal, allowing one goal in her half.
At halftime, Gough handed the net over to first-year goalkeeper Michaela DiCicco, who played the other 45 minutes left in the game. The second half proceeded much as the first half did, with the Fighting Scots’ defensive play holding Keene State to a draw. Nine minutes into the half, the Owls almost broke through and nearly scored off of a shot by senior defender Elise Saab, which flew wide right.
Minutes after, one of the Fighting Scots slipped through the Owls’ defense and nearly scored on a breakaway, but was denied at the last minute by DiCiccio. The tie did not last, however, and Gordon capitalized on an opening in the Owls’ defense and put one in the back of the net to go up 2-1. Despite a series of close shots, the Owls ultimately could not convert and fell to Gordon College.
With the loss, the Owls move to 0-2-1, all out of conference. The Owls next hit the field for an away game against Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 12, for their first Little East Conference matchup.
