Women’s volleyball played a tri-match this past weekend against both Southern Maine and Trinity. The Owls swept Southern Maine 3-0 after racking up 26 kills but unfortunately fell in a close five sets to Trinity 3-2. In the game against Southern Maine, the scores of the sets were 25-14, 25-12 and 25-21. Junior Sydney Johnson led the way with another double-double of 12 kills, ten digs and three aces. Senior Emilyann Ashford (pictured above) had eleven spikes and six digs, and sophomore Cassidy Samuelson had ten kills. Sophomore Kacie Blanchet had 35 assists, eight digs, and three aces. In the match against Trinity, the set scores were 18-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-25 and 15-17. Senior Elizabeth Johnson saved a career-best of 17 kills on this Senior Day game, while Ashford added eleven more kills to her overall total. Samuelson tacked on nine while Blanchet had 44 kills and 17 digs for Keene. The Owls had a 12-6 advantage in blocks, but were -17 (86-69) in digs as five Trinity players finished in double-digits. Earlier this week, the Owls also faced off against Colby-Sawyer and Western New England. The Owls dominated Colby-Sawyer with a 3-0 win against the Chargers. The scores were 25-12, 25-20 and 25-22, respectively. In the five set game against Western New England, the Owls won again, sneaking by the Golden Bears with a 3-2 win. The scores of those sets were 25-19, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19 and 15-9, respectively. Keene will be back in action Thursday, October 28 as they head to Elms College.
