The Boston Bruins are forced to re-work lines and defensive structure due to Torey Krug, Kevan Miller and Captain Zdeno Chara being injured.
“Kevan [Miller] sustained a dislocated shoulder injury and will be out indefinitely,” Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli said in an article written by Caryn Switaj at the official Bruins Blog on bruins.nhl.com.
Miller was taken to the locker room instead of the penalty box after his fight with Buffalo forward Nicolas Deslauriers during the game Saturday, Oct. 18.
According to Chiarelli, Chara suffered a knee ligament injury in a collision with New York Islanders’ forward John Tavares.
Chiarelli confirmed that Chara will be out for four to six weeks after the Islanders’ game on Oct. 23.
Chiarelli addressed a statement following the Minnesota Wild game last month that said Torey Krug is injured and will be out for two to three weeks due to a broken finger.
Krug was injured from a slash late in the third period during the Wild / Bruins game on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
The Bruins have recalled David Warsofsky and Joe Morrow from the Providence Bruins after Krug’s injury to even out the lines.
Warsofsky is a Marshfield, Massachusetts native and was the 95th overall pick in the 2008 NHL draft.
He scored one goal and one assist last year for two points. Warsofsky played as Krug’s replacement during this year’s preseason when Krug was unsigned.
The 6’1”, 206-pound defenseman Joe Morrow skated with Providence in a total of 56 games last year.
He scored six goals and earned twenty-three assists.
Morrow was also a first-round draft pick by the Pittsburg Penguins in the 2011 NHL draft.
“Both those guys [Morrow and Warsofsky] I think are going to become regulars in the NHL very soon, so this is how close they are and they’ve had good camps, so it’s an opportunity for them to step in there and get some experience and help us out,” Bruins’ Coach Claude Julien said to Caryn Switaj of bruins.nhl.com, after the Providence players joined the team during practice.
“I’ve only played a handful of games. Joe [Morrow], Seth [Griffith], Trots [Zach Trotman] we’ve all only played a handful of games, so all of our mentality is to come up here [to Boston], keep it simple, stick within the outline of the team and our identity, and help out this team the best we can,” Warsofsky said to reporter Nicholas Gross of NESN before the Minnesota Wild game last month.
The Bruins beat Toronto 4-1 on the road, but their success ended when they suffered a 4-3 loss to Minnesota at the TD Garden in Boston.
Minnesota was able to score three of their four goals against the Bruins in the third period due to a defensive collapse by the Bruins.
In Caryn Switaj’s of bruins.nhl.com article, Coach Julien commented after the Minnesota game.
He said, “Right now, there are two things we can control, and that is respecting our structure and our compete level, I think if we take care of those two things we can survive this.”
