This year the Social Activities Council is bringing Lupe Fiasco and Sam Adams to campus for Spring Weekend, and according to SAC Concert Coordinator Laura Bourque, this is the most popular show they have ever hosted.
The event is being held in the Spaulding Gymnasium, which can hold 2,200 people, the largest capacity of any indoor venue on campus. By comparison, the J. Cole and We The Kings concert in the Mabel Brown Room had room for around 700 people.
Junior Colter Beote said he got his tickets online but thinks that SAC should consider an outdoor venue for shows in the future.
“They should do a concert on the A-fields with a tent over the stage,” Beote said.
Tickets for the show went on sale at 9 a.m. online and at 10 a.m. in the L.P. Young Student Center, and by 1 p.m. students were told there were no tickets left. Bourque said this is the fastest tickets have ever sold out, beating the Spring Concert in 2009, which featured O.A.R. That concert sold out in 47 hours.

According to Bourque, about 1500 tickets were sold online and 700 in person, with a limit of two per student. Bourque said there was a flaw in the system, which allowed students to purchase tickets both online and in person, but this was only exploited by three students at least one of which admitted it was a mistake.
“We know who the other two are, but we aren’t going to take away their tickets,” Borque said.
Bourque said SAC has received at least 50 emails asking about the potential for more tickets, but there is nothing SAC can do. In fact, some members of SAC were unable to get tickets themselves.
Freshman Samantha McGeowan said she did not get any tickets because she did not expect there to be a need for her to rush out.
“There should be a place big enough where there is room for every student to get at least one ticket,” McGeowan said.
Bourque said she views this as more reason to bring the much talked about Expo Center to Keene so that larger events will be able to accommodate everyone.
Bourque also said the original plan was for student tickets to be available for a week and then opening up the sales to non-students.
Sophomore Allison Cederbaum said she decided to wait out the long line in the Student Center.
“I got in line around 10:30 and it only took like 20 minutes,” Cederbaum said.
Freshman Brianna Knapp said she also got her tickets, but decided to buy them online. “It was a lot easier than I expected to get them online.”
Bourque said the way SAC has it set up, it is meant to be fair to both students who got them online and those who decided to purchase them in person.
