As the semester comes to an end, winter break and the holiday season brings opportunities for students to enjoy time away from school.
Going around campus, students were eager to share their upcoming plans in regards to winter break and what is in store for them.
First-year Brianna Finke said she does not have much going on, but she will be working during the break. Finke said she is getting more excited about going home as the days go by.
“I want to earn more money so I plan to go back to work and sleep a lot,” Finke said. “I also miss my friends from home so I am super excited to see them.”
First-year Andy Brown said he has no idea what is going to happen over his break.
“My family and I plan to travel and I am not sure where I am going yet but it’s a surprise. For sure, though, I need a break and a vacation is perfect for that,” said Brown.
Junior Dorjee Sherpa spoke about her holiday plans and how going home is her favorite thing to do.
“My plans for winter break are to relax at home, maybe work, maybe go out with my friends, I don’t know,” said Sherpa. “I am just glad I get to say I have a break where I actually don’t have assignments given to me when I am supposed to be enjoying the time off.”
Senior Payton Jones agreed with Sherpa and said that he can’t wait to relax at home. Jones said he is eager to be done with finals to enjoy a nice break away from Keene.
“I will spend a little time with family when I am home and work. I don’t have any big plans like my friends do but I’m so damn happy I get to get the hell away from Keene for the next couple of weeks,” Jones said.
Unlike the students above, these senior girls in particular had other plans to stay in Keene for the winter holidays.
“This is my second year in my house and it is just easier to stay here, plus I really don’t mind Keene, it is not as bad as people make it seem, it’s nice when everyone goes home,” said senior Libby White.
“I am going to stay here for work since I have a job here, and my friends are staying with me so it will be nice to see them every day. I like when everyone goes home for break, Keene is so nice when it is quiet and there are less students,” said senior Katelyn Bastarache.
Alex Bedard said she agreed with both Bastarache and White that staying in Keene is a “better option” for her for the upcoming winter break.
“I also live in a house in Keene and it’s just easier. I don’t have to drive three hours to get home, my house is here. Also, like [White] said, we get to hang out and we will have New Year’s parties and such here with my other friends who live down the street; those are my big plans,” Bedard said.
