The KSC Class of 2028 Student Government played a part in spreading holiday joy through the L.P. Young Student Center last week with a candygram fundraiser.
Sophomore and Class of 2028 Representative Andrew Longolucco said the goal of the fundraiser was to raise money for future Class of 2028 events, particularly the traditional senior year Red and White Night prom that will take place in two years when the Class of 2028 are seniors.
“We’re raising money for when it’s our turn in two years,” said Longolucco. “It costs a lot of money, so we had to raise a lot in advance to be prepared for it.”
To raise these funds, the Class of 2028 student government sold candygram bags containing hot chocolate mix, candy and stickers to students in the Student Center throughout last week.
Longolucco said the choice to sell candygrams for this fundraiser felt appropriate to him during the season of giving.
“A lot of people are going to be going home soon, so if people want a quick, easy present to give a family member or a loved one, it’s simple,” said Longolucco. “You can buy something nice for the people you care about and it’s pretty universal, anyone would appreciate it.”
Longolucco said he encouraged students to buy candygrams and contribute to the fundraiser to support future Class of 2028 student government events.
“You’re getting more out of it than just a plastic bag,” he said. “You’re contributing to the class, you’re helping donate to create something that’s bigger than you and something that a bunch of other people are going to be able to enjoy. Even if it’s just a small donation from one person, it all adds up and we can have these great Class of 2028-based nights.”
Looking ahead to the spring semester, Longolucco said the KSC Class of 2028 Student Government is looking forward to hosting more events, including a “battle of the bands” event that will bring a selection of bands to perform at KSC.
