As we reached the second week of October, we have also reached the fall semester midpoint as a college.
Students are preparing for midterms, balancing more of a workload, feeling relaxed or feeling checked out already and wanting the semester to end.
“I feel overworked and there’s a lot to do. I got into a car accident, got a flat tire and I am just going through it if I am being honest, that is how my semester is going,” said senior Johannah Deziel. She expressed that all of this happening to her is a perfect example of wanting the mid-semester point to be finished and finals to begin so she can get a break from school.
Deziel continued, “It’s especially hard because there are more group projects, assignments that feel never ending or due on the same date all of a sudden.”
Senior Lex Gargan agreed with Deziel, adding that they felt stressed and every time they opened Canvas they felt that there were more assignments due than they anticipated. “I am stressed, I feel stressed, there is a lot going on. I am working two jobs, doing a capstone project, having so many assignments that feel never ending and planning a wedding,” Gargan said.
Gargan continued, “If you can’t tell I am having such bad senioritis and I am ready for the semester to be over with, even the year to be honest.”
“I am feeling stressed and this happens every semester, all my classes just feel like they are piling on and every one of my professors is making either midterms or projects at the same time which is just crazy,” said senior Rebecca Brennan, who also expressed that this is nothing new to her and that she has experienced this process many times but will power through like she normally does.
As midterms have already passed for some or started for others, some students felt they were on the right track when hitting the mid-point of the semester.
“I feel work is slowing down, but the work feels more harder than it did at the beginning of the semester. It is quite manageable so I don’t have anything to complain about,” said junior Amanda Rotigilano. She continued and said her school work is not too hard to manage and that she was in the process of preparing for her midterm.
“Honestly, I feel the same as I did when junior year first started, and all my assignments are being piled on after another and due at the exact same time. I just need to continue what I have been doing, which is going at the pace I usually do, and it works out,” said junior Sarah Laliberte.
