Keene State Women’s Soccer played a nailbiter game on Saturday, Sept. 13, tying opponent Eastern Connecticut State University (EastConn) 1-1 in both teams’ first Little East Conference (LEC) matchup of the season. Entering the game, the Owls were coming off their second win of the season after the team’s September 10 matchup against Westfield State University.
The match against the EastConn Warriors began with a flurry of shots by EastConn on senior goalkeeper Riley Andriski. Andriski went on to face six shots on goal, saving five.
The Warriors scored on a corner kick at the 40-minute mark, notching their first of the match near the end of the half.
Play remained tight in the second half, with both sides getting chippy. Whistles were abundant, with a total of 18 fouls handed out between the two teams.
At the 48-minute mark, EastConn took a foul deep in the box, leading to an Owl penalty kick. Junior forward Allison Kenyon took the penalty, which was saved by EastConn. Junior Captain Bryn Dickinson attempted the rebound, missing the tying goal by inches when her shot was blocked in an intense goal-line play.
The Owls finally secured an equalizer at the 89-minute mark with 44 seconds remaining, as junior midfielder Emily O’Connell robbed EastConn of a clean sheet. O’Connell had three shots on the day and netted the lone goal of the previous match as well. O’Connell was assisted by first-year midfielder Mikayla Ryan, for the first assist of Ryan’s college career.
With the tie, the Owls move on to a 2-3-1 record, as well as 0-0-1 in LEC play.
The Owls will next be in action against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, at home on September 20, for yet another conference matchup.
