Keene State Field Hockey won its homecoming game with a 4-0 shutout against Fitchburg State University (FSU) on Saturday, Sept. 13, continuing the team’s undefeated season.
The Owls went into the game with an undefeated record of 5-0, coming off a decisive 7-1 win over Westfield State University. FSU’s Falcons were going into this game with a 3-1 record, following a 6-2 win over Rivier University.
The first half of the game went almost scoreless; however, the Owls kept pressure on FSU the whole time. The Owls had a total of 20 shots against FSU in the first half alone, compared to Fitchburg’s three. This culminated in a goal by junior midfielder Elyse Picard, assisted by fellow junior midfielder Belle Hemond, at the 29-minute mark, the first of the game and Picard’s first goal of the season. This brought the first half to an end, with the Owls holding FSU to just three shots throughout.
The start of the second half did not go any better for FSU, where the Owls kept up the pressure and prevented the Falcons from getting any shots through the last two periods of the game. At around the 37-minute mark, senior forward Grace Bazin, with an assist by Hemond, scored the second goal of the game and brought the Owls to 2-0. Less than a minute later, Bazin scored the third goal of the game, with the third period ending with no further action.
The next period brought the same, more pressure on the Falcons, with seven shots throughout the period. Grace Bazin once again scored against the Falcons, bringing in the final goal of the game. The game ended with a final score of 4-0, with the Owls taking the victory and continuing their winning streak.
With this win, the Owls will head on the road for their next three games, with the first game at Western New England University on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
