During the Tuesday, Sept. 9 meeting of the KSC Student Assembly, junior Amanda Rotigliano, speaker of the assembly, briefly explained in her opening remarks how the meeting was designed to demonstrate the student assembly’s process for students interested in joining the board and/or the KSC Senate.
She also mentioned the changes the Senate is already undergoing.
“Last semester, we approved the new [general education] model, so the Senate right now is going through a lot of changes to get that model implemented in the next year,” Rotigliano reminded attendees.
Continuing to teach student government, Jen Ferrell, associate vice president for student engagement and advisor to the KSC Student Government, discussed the purpose and value of the Senate.
“The Senate is sort of the academic policy and procedure-making body on campus,” Ferrell said.
She explained that to join the Senate, students either need to become the student body president – an automatic Senator position – or serve on the student assembly, where they can then run for a Senate seat.
“I will be looking forward to helping new folks and helping get people onboarded,” Ferrell added. She added she hopes for strong numbers during the upcoming election.
The student assembly held elections on September 17. Students interested in joining were required to submit their petition before September 15.
