For many years, Keene State’s own Delta Phi Epsilon (DPhiE) sorority has continually expressed its support for The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) with the association being one of its three main philanthropies.

This year, sophomore and Vice President of Programming for DPhiE Emily Hussey led a successful fundraiser for ANAD Week.

Hussey said she decided to pick up the torch to go above and beyond with her role as vice president of programming by introducing something extra during this year’s ANAD week.

“Something I started this year is a self-care raffle. We have self-care products that were donated by sisters and we are doing it all week,” said Hussey.

ANAD Week is a fundraising event that DPhiE holds every year, typically after spring break. DPhiE members tabled in the L.P. Young Student Center each day of the week.

No Makeup Monday is about encouragement to show inner beauty. On the DPhiE Instagram, members posted on the story with selfies of them wearing no makeup and encouraging others to express themselves.

Trash Your Insecurities Tuesday was where you could write down your insecurities or something that bothers you and throw it away in the trash can at the table.

Wellness Wednesday offered heart-shaped post-it notes where students could write wellness tips.

Treat Yourself Thursday offered students the opportunity to make small treat bags to take home, along with self-care coupons featuring little prompts to encourage students to care for themselves.

Lastly was Fierce Friday which featured DPhiE and ANAD trivia at the table. Friday is also when ANAD karaoke sign-ups were offered for anyone to join and sing.

ANAD karaoke is the last event featured during the week, hosted in the Mabel Brown Room from 6-8 on Fierce Friday.

“Anyone can come and sing, it doesn’t have to be just sisters. We will have a few alumni there as well,” Hussey explained. She also spoke about how karaoke is an important part of the week. “It’s just to have fun with everyone in a judgment-free zone and just sing our hearts out.”

ANAD Week is special to the DPhiE members, said junior and Vice President of Recruitment Kayla Turner. She spoke about what ANAD Week means to her.

“I think that in Greek Life there’s such a stigma that we bring, before we get to know the sororities, about body image and how you have to look to be in a sorority,” Turner said.

Turner explained that the message of ANAD is impactful to her and her sisters.

“It’s just nice to know that everyone has a place in our sisterhood no matter what you look like,” said Turner.

She mentioned how worried people might be when entering the world of Greek Life.

“It’s important to inspire the campus to love themselves and to know more about this amazing organization,” Turner added.

The sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon worked this week to let the KSC community know that they are not alone and that it is okay to get help if you are struggling. In total, the sisters raised $215 this week, with all of the proceeds going towards ANAD.
