The KSC Wellness Center, Feminist Collective (FemCo) and the Hungry Owl are hosting a menstrual product drive on campus.
Students are encouraged to donate products at the donation bins in the student center bathrooms, the Wellness Center and at The Hungry Owl. These boxes will be up from February 24 to the 14th of March.
“The drive is essentially the three organizations doing a drive for menstruation products and the goal is to split it three ways and all three of us can have them available for students on campus,” said senior and President of FemCo Iz Falcetti.
“For FemCo, the goal is to have them to stock the bathrooms because we do that more or less based on what we have available through a drive. There are boxes around the student center that explicitly state that they are for the drive and that students can drop them in,” continued Falcetti.
Senior Administrative Assistant at the KSC Wellness Center, Kelsey DeAngelis said the drive is something she feels personally passionate about.
“It is something that we feel is really important to do on campus and allow students to be able to get menstrual products and not have to spend money on them as another resource on campus,” said DeAngelis.
“The wellness center has been buying menstrual products on our own budget. We bag products and leave the boxes they come in on our bookshelves here so students can come on up and take what they need. They are welcome to ask me questions if they are looking for something they do not see,” said DeAngelis.
Senior Coordinator of Student Involvement and Wellbeing Emily Alexander, who oversees Hungry Owl operations said, “In our Keene State community, The Hungry Owl has multiple satellite locations, one of those being in the wellness center lobby, and oftentimes we try to place as many menstrual or personal care products there as we can as students come looking for menstrual products if they can’t afford them themselves or need them in a pinch.”
“Anything people are willing to donate is wonderful. We know people have different preferences and needs and we are taking whatever we can get. I would love to note that if people are interested in continuing to donate these types of products they are always able to donate them right at the Hungry Owl at our main location when we are open,” continued Alexander.
