The Keene State Field Hockey team concluded their season last Wednesday with a loss against Babson in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
In their game against Babson College, the Beavers finished off the Owls with a 5-0 score, moving them forward to the next round of NCAA.
After a scoreless first, Babson gained three goals in a 7:46 span during the second quarter pushing them to a 3-0 lead late in the period. The Beavers then had two more goals in a two minute span during the third quarter securing them the win, making it their 14th straight win.
KSC junior Clara Gorman made 12 saves for Keene State, making the game scoreless during the first quarter despite four of Babson’s 11 corner chances being in the first. It was not until the second quarter that the Beavers scored when Katie Gudin intercepted a KSC pass off of a restart making the lead 1-0. The Owls had an opportunity to make it even but senior Molly Murray shot too wide against Babson goalkeeper Bayla Furmanek.
In the next sequence, KSC blocked an attempt from the Beavers, who cleared a shot. The Beavers pulled ahead 3-0 when Camille Marsh and Caroline DiGiovanni got past the Owls’ defense to score their goals.
Babson denied juniors Grace Bazin and Kalina Piasecki within 32 seconds of both of their attempts on goal along with two more tries. Piaskecki was denied again in the 49th minute of the game, securing the Beavers a shutout for their game.
With the Owls final match of the season, the team sends off Irini Stefanakos, Hannah Wood, Molly Murray and student assistant Ashley Enis, who close out their field hockey careers at Keene State.
In the 2024 season, Murray got the first double-digit goal total of her season, while Wood was named Little East Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Stefanakos had 11 goals and 18 assists this season and finished her career at KSC with 63 goals, 50 assists and 15-game winning goals. The Owls finished off their season with their 15th overall LEC league title.
