The KSC Sustainability Department hosted an “Open Mic Night” in the Night Owl Café.
On Sunday, Oct. 21, Open Mic Night gave Keene State students the chance to perform pieces such as songs, poems or skits. This event was held from 7-9pm.
Kate Witte, sustainability coordinator for Keene State, said, “This is our first time doing this between sustainability and wellness.”
Three people participated in the event, and according to Witte, “Our hope was that if people saw the performers they would have the courage to go up as well and be inspired.”
According to high school junior Kro Aronson, they were inspired to participate because of their Audition Technique theater course they take through the college, as well as their passion for music.
“I really just like experimenting with different songs and it’s a good way to try new stuff,” Aronson said.
One of the songs Aronson performed was called “This is Home” by the artist Cavetown. Aronson said they were inspired to perform the song due to their comfort with the range.
“It’s one that I always liked and the chords are fairly simple but also a good song that I’m comfortable with and it’s a good song for a finisher,” Aronson said.
When asked about the technical aspect of the event, senior Jasmine Jordan stated, “I think everyone is doing well, we are having some technical issues but everyone is doing the best they can.”
