Keene State Women’s Soccer went up against the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMB) and the Owls faced a hard 4-1 loss against the Beacons.
The game took place on Saturday, Oct. 12 at KSC’s Dr. Ron Butcher Field.
The Owls scored their only goal of the game by sophomore Elizabeth Tschudin, who landed a shot within six minutes of the game starting. Beacon player Sofia Schallmo tied the game at 10 minutes with a shot past KSC goalie junior Riley Andriski.
Andriski was able to block a Beacon shot at 16 minutes. However, UMB was awarded a penalty kick after Beacon player Kathryn Brown was downed in the Owl box. Schallmo kicked for the Beacons and made the shot, allowing the Beacons to take the lead.
The Owls went on the attack for the rest of the first half, attempting three shots, none of which found the goal. On the other end of the field, Andriski was able to block another Beacon shot at 41 minutes. However, near the end of the first half, Beacon player Caleigh Sullivan sent a curveball past Andriski for UMB’s third goal of the game.
The second half began with UMB on the attack, with two shots in the first five minutes of play. Andriski was able to block the first, but a header ball made by Brown at 50 minutes landed UMB their last goal of the game.
The Beacons kept the pressure on the Owls, but the Owls were able to block five shots thanks to Andriski and defensive player junior Giuliana Stolfi. The Owls attempted a comeback, but all seven shots made in the second half failed.
Next, Women’s Soccer will be on the road to face the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, Oct. 19.
