Keene State Women’s lacrosse fell to Western Connecticut 11-8 this past Saturday.
Keene State College got off to a strong start in the first period taking a 3-1 lead. Senior Vicky Gracy of Western Connecticut kicked things off with an unassisted goal. But then fifth year Haile Ratajack of Keene State and company responded, scoring three unanswered goals including a goal by Ratajack.
In the second quarter Western Connecticut fought back winning the period 2-1. Sophomore Madison Ratchford from Western Connecticut had an unassisted goal to get the second quarter started.
In the third quarter Western Connecticut showed heart beating the Owls 5-2 within the 15 minute span. First-year Isabella Pota of Western Connecticut had two goals alone in the period.
Heading into the fourth quarter Western Connecticut held a 8-6 lead over Keene State College. They then did just enough to come out with the win. They won the quarter 3-2. Junior Savannah Kom put the icing on the cake for Western Connecticut scoring a goal to put her girls up 11-7 late in the fourth.
On Keene State’s side Ratajack played hard scoring another hat trick, her goals came in the first period, the third period and fourth period. Fifth-year Mindy St. Marie scored two goals of her own coming in the first period and the fourth period.
Key players for Western Connecticut was Ratchford who was one of two players who had a hat trick on Saturday. Pota was the other Western Connecticut player with the hat trick. Other than those two everyone else on Western Connecticut scored just a lone goal.
Keene State fell to 7-4 and 2-1 in the LEC putting them in third place for the conference. Western Connecticut improved to 8-5 and 3-0 in the LEC which puts them in first place.
