Jonathan Chatfield receivedplenty of Little East Conference (LEC) recognition for Keene State Baseball this season so far.
Chatfield won Player of the Week this past week and helped KSC Baseball get a hot 2-1 start. Against Mount Aloysius he had two hits, one run and an RBI. Against Swarthmore Chatfield had another two hits and continued to pick up three more RBI’s. Both resulted in Keene State baseball wins. In the 20-5 loss versus Mcdaniel he took 2 walks and tallied a run. Throughout the first three games of the season Chatfield’s batting has led to scoring in each game so far.
Regarding being honored as Player of the Week, Chatfield said, “Getting off to a good start as a team at 2-1 is very good… and being able to play as well as I did from the jump helps all around.”
Chatfield showed great excitement for doing what he loves in college and helping out his team. “Baseball is everything to me, I love watching it, playing it and learning about it all the time,” Chatfield said. “ I can talk about baseball simply forever if I was given the chance.”
Chatfield stated he wants his strikeout numbers to go down as he wants to tap into a higher level. He recently had a position change to outfield.
Keene State Baseball coach Justin Blood said Chatfield, “Works very hard. It’s not surprising how good he’s been lately … he’s a great kid.”
Blood acknowledged how Chatfield has improved every year since he got to Keene State. “I’m extremely happy to be his coach and his hard work is paying off,” Blood said.
Blood had nothing but praise for the reigning LEC Player of the Week. “He’s very chatty, clearly loves talking about baseball, and because of that love we’re not surprised he’s been this good,” Blood said.
Chatfield’s captain Brendan Eaton said Chatfielfd is a hard worker and he was, “Not surprised how good he’s been these last two years. He works very hard and loves the game.”
Eaton added, “He’s a great
person and I enjoy being around him. He fits our culture perfectly.”
According to Eaton, him and Chatfield have a good connection and great respect for one another. “He has really helped us start out hot. He has really been a premiere player for us.”
