LEC recognizes Brandon Comire as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Teamwork and leadership has been leading a successful season for the men’s soccer team so far. Among their success is Brandon Comire, a junior defensive player from Deerfield, N.H.
This is Comire’s third year at Keene State. In both the week of Sept. 25, and Oct. 2, LEC named him the Defensive Player of the Week, one of which followed a road game at Eastern Connecticut State University where Comire led the defense and the Owls won 2-1.
“I’ve definitely seen a huge improvement just from how I’ve been playing and everything, especially these three years playing at Keene State, so it’s good reassurance seeing this recognition,” said Comire.
Soccer has been part of Comire’s life for a long time, joining a club team in middle school and being a team captain of his high school varsity team. He isn’t a team captain on the team this year, instead part of the rotating game captains along with three other teammates, so every game one of them will be wearing an armband. Comire had the band the game prior to being named the Defensive Player of the Week.
With another year ahead for Comire, he still has plenty of time left on the field, with all the accomplishments that can come with that. “Every day, every time I go on the practice field and I’m trying to get better, I’m always working 110%,” said Comire. The team looks and feels like the LEC championships are in the future for them. Comire spoke on how the team has come together both on and off the field. “I feel like as a collective, as a team, we’ve grounded this idea that we’re a family. That, no matter what it is, we’re working through it together. So no one’s left alone.” With the team having the right mindset and finding success on the field, they are continuing a hopeful season.
Comire made it clear there is much more to a team than just what is seen on the field, if they cannot support each other and help one another, success will not be found. Each game shows what the players are capable of finding within themselves, both as individuals and as a team. Head coach Matt Schmidt said, “We talk about our values of a good person, good student, good teammate, good player. He embodies all of those, he’s a great student and so consistent when it comes to the values and the energy he brings every day, you couldn’t ask for a better teammate. So for him to be playing well and get recognized by the league, so excited for him.”
