Every weekend in Rhodes Hall, a group of gamers all come together to play games in what they call the Gamer’s Guild.

“Gamer’s Guild is a student organization where we have a bunch of students come here to play games. Board games, trading card games, some video games and just having a good time in general,” said President of the Gamer’s Guild senior Andrew Chase. “One of the cool things about it is that people can just come and go at will. There are no mandatory meetings. People just come in to have fun.”

Different types of games are enjoyed by the members of the Gamer’s Guild. Ben Katz, who has been a member for two years, said his favorite games are Super Smash Brothers, a video game, and Cockroach Poker, a card game.

“It’s a good place to go to make sure I don’t spend all of my time in my dorm doing nothing. It’s a good place to get out and meet new people,” Katz said.

Tournaments used to be held at Gamer’s Guild, but recently there have been budgeting issues. “The issue is that we need more funding from the school. Last semester we had a bit of an issue with trying to get meetings scheduled,” Chase said. Chase stated he does not know how long the organization has been around. “It’s fairly new from what I remember, but it’s been here as long as I have been here at least. So I would say probably 2016 or 2018,” he said.

Kevin DeAmicis, a member of at least five years, said his favorite board game to play is Initial D. He added,“It’s a fun place to be. It’s a good place to relax and meet people.” When asked about why the Gamer’s Guild has recently been increasing their presence on campus, Chase said, “Our attendance numbers have been going down slowly, but we have been trying to get more people to come back. At the beginning of each semester, we usually have a decent chunk of people that come to learn about it.”

While attendance numbers are fluctuating, it was noted that different types of games can be played with larger groups of people. Robert Aguiar, who has been a member for two years, said that his favorite game is Two Rooms and a Boom. “It’s a big party game that is great for big groups when we get them,” Aguiar said.

Aguiar said he thinks the Gamer’s Guild “is a really great gathering place. A very great place to get out and meet new people.”

Gamer’s Guild meets during the weekends from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Rhodes Hall N210.
