As summer simmers down, schools begin to open and classes start up again. Here at Keene State College, the class of 2019 is beginning to settle down into the groove of college life. For most, this time is filled with the excitement of finally feeling liberated with their newfound freedom, but for others the stress of becoming acclimated into a new setting is already taking over. While we can already feel the difference of college life from our past lives in high school, it’s important to keep some things in mind.
For starters, this isn’t high school. College is a bigger change than some had anticipated, but this is completely normal. The workloads are already heavier, and for some, noticeably heavier than they’re accustomed

to. While the work will take some time getting used to, we all have to remember that in one way or another, it’s there for a reason. Our classes are here to discipline us and test us to see how much endurance we really do have.
We as college students have plenty of free time on our hands. It’s definitely a change of pace to realize that we don’t have classes back to back all day long. For some, we could have a morning class and then not one again until later that evening. Already, it seems difficult to prioritize what we actually need to do versus what we want to do. No longer do we have our parents nagging us to do our work on time; we have to rely solely on ourselves to do everything that we need to. It’s a good tip to always be cautious of approaching due dates, so that we never find ourselves falling behind on any of our academic assignments.
On the contrary, it’s also important to make time for yourself and go out of your way to be around others. Too many people get swept up by their emotions and their own negative mindsets that they miss the positivity that’s all around campus. There are plenty of outlets on and off campus for all students to explore and blow off some steam from their stressors. Finding things to do at Keene is insanely easy. There’s always plenty to do in the student center, games on the turfs if you’re into sports and a plethora of restaurants and places to hang out at on Main Street. There’s a little bit of everything for just about everyone here on campus.
This school year has just begun and the possibilities for everyone are endless. It’s the time to reinvent yourself if you choose to, find new things that interest you and develop them into passions. Especially for the first-year class of 2019. Find things, people and places that you love and run with it.
