The Keene State Senate held a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in the Mountain View room of the L.P. Young Student Center.
During the Executive Committee’s report, it was said that a motion was passed as a follow up to a previous motion that involved renaming courses featuring “I” in their title; for example, INPHYS-241 will now be listed as PHYSICS-241, and ITW-101 will be switching to TW-101. Other courses may also be considered for renaming.
It was said that courses for the fall 2026 semester are newly tagged but not public, which is normal for this time of the academic year. The courses will be made public and searchable in student self-service when the catalog is finalized.
Additionally, there will be an informative session held at some point for advisors and faculty so they’re aware of how to search for the newly renamed courses. It has not been decided yet when the session will occur or who will run it.
There will also be new features in student self-service, such as an icon reading “GE” on a listed course that will enable students to search for general education courses in a more convenient manner. The new features have not been published yet, but most likely will be with the finalization of the catalog.
The College Wide Academic Program Committee, represented by Senator and Professor Mike Cullinane, shared that outlines regarding the proposal of new courses were approved as a result of committee effort and campus feedback in the past semester. The committee’s goal was to get the information about these new course proposals out across campus so those who had worked on the proposals could begin to prepare ideas for additional courses and general education courses.
“The work we’ve done so far has focused on the areas that are new, as well as the writing and quantitative literacy areas,” Cullinane said, “What we still need to do is think about the liberal arts areas. The natural and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities.”
Cullinane said that this semester the committee was going to try and tackle questions that may appear in the guidelines of these course proposals and courses themselves, not just for the areas that have already been proposed, but alongside the four liberal arts areas.
“We are working on those questions and we need to continue our discussion on that. As we have proposals, we’ll bring them forward to the senate,” Cullinane said.
The Senate Curriculum Committee motioned a request for the Senate to approve revisions made to the B.A. in Sociology, B.A. in Criminal Justice Studies, the Addiction minor and B.S. in Nursing.
It was also requested that the inactivation of B.S. in Health Science as well as the new B.S. in Health Science be approved. In addition, course revisions for NURS 304, 307 and 403 were presented.
All motions were carried unanimously.
