The KSC Film Society welcomed two new e-board members following the club’s annual elections. The elections were held on Wednesday, March 5 during the club’s regularly scheduled meeting.
All positions were open, and anyone running for an e-board position presented a brief speech at the meeting. There were five positions to be elected for: President, vice president, secretary, treasurer and social media manager.
Junior and Secretary of film society, junior Mariah Rodriguez-Costa, ran unopposed and was elected as the next film society president. “I’ve been on the board for a while, I have had two great presidents before me and I want to bring more women power to the club,” said Rodriguez-Costa. “I look forward to continuing the legacy of film society.”
Two members of the e-board, Social Media Manager Cam Perroni and President Ryan Severn, are seniors graduating in the spring. All other e-board members ran for re-election or a new position.
Severn became vice president in his first-year, fall 2021, as the club was recovering from COVID-19. “It won’t be the same without film society on Wednesdays,” said Severn.
Perroni said he joined the club in the fall of 2021 as well and became social media manager as a sophomore. “I am going to miss controlling the technical aspects of Film Society,” Perroni commented.
Juniors Tyler Desjardins and Benjamin Martins were re-elected as vice president and Treasurer. Sophomore Alonzo (Lonny) Smith was elected as the new social media manager.
Sophomore Cait Erban, who was elected as the new secretary, said she is excited to be on the e-board.
“I’ve always thought running a movie theater would be cool,” Erban said. “I like everybody in the club and I hoped if I got the e-board position, I would be able to socialize more.”
The e-board invited anyone wishing to run for a position down to the front to voice their opinion on why they should be elected, starting with president and ending with vice president.
The current e-board decided who was elected for every position, besides vice president, which was decided by a “voice of the people vote” that included general club members, said Severn.
After everyone had the chance to speak, the e-board left the room to discuss who should fill each position. While they were deliberating, the newly elected president had each vice presidential candidate leave the room to count the anonymous votes. All general members are expected to close their eyes and raise their hand for the candidate of their choosing. Those running for vice president could not vote.
