KSC History Professor Emerita Susan Wade died Monday, Dec. 2, according to an email President Melinda Treadwell sent to the college community the following day.
“Described as a ‘student-centered, rigorous, supportive, and masterful teacher,’ Dr. Wade embraced and embodied the liberal arts mission of Keene State, striving to equip students for the demands of scholarly research and the diverse roles they would play in the world after graduation,” Treadwell stated.
Treadwell highlighted the range of Wade’s contributions to the community over the course of her 14 years at the college, including her prior roles as director of the Morris-August Honors Program, chair of the history department and chair of the sabbatical committee, as well as a longtime member of the Honors Council.
Wade also assisted in launching the college’s Master of Arts in History and Archives and frequently published research work in her field.
“She was highly regarded as a prolific scholar of international repute in her field of early-to-central medieval cultural history, monasticism, gender and sexuality,” Treadwell stated.
Treadwell expressed gratitude for all of Wade’s impact at KSC, adding that details about Wade’s family’s memorial plans will be made known as information becomes available. The email linked to resources for both students and faculty looking for emotional support upon receiving the news of Wade’s death.
