Keene State Field Hockey routed UMass- Dartmouth in a 9-0 shutout, increasing their perfect record to a whopping nine wins and zero losses on the season.
The game was the Owls’ first Little East Conference matchup and was played at home on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Play began slowly in the first period, but the Owls had a clear offensive edge, rattling off five shots before ultimately scoring just before the period’s completion.
Junior forward Grace Bazin scored the lone goal of the period, while UMass-Dartmouth only made one shot through the 15 minutes.
The pressure campaign continued in the second period, with the Owls scoring a second goal, this time off the stick of sophomore forward Meghan Daileanes.
A third goal was also scored by senior defender Hannah Wood just over a minute later at the 26:36 mark.
Along with the goals, the Owls made six other shots in the period, with five penalty corners. , UMass-Dartmouth had no luck in the offensive category, failing to make a single shot. The third period began with new goalies on both sides, but much of the same story continued. Senior forward Irini Stefanakos scored her third goal of the season just over seven minutes into the period, while Bazin got her second of the game shortly after. In the fourth period, Bazin secured a hat trick just over a minute and a half in, her 13th goal of the season. 57 seconds later, junior forward Kalina Piasecki scored her third of the season, with the Owls now at a commanding 7-0 lead.
UMass-Dartmouth swapped out its goalkeeper once more after the Owls’ seventh goal; however, Keene State did not let up offensively.
After two shots and two penalty corners, senior midfielder Molly Murray scored KSC’s eighth goal of the afternoon.
UMass-Dartmouth secured its second and final shot of the game a little under six minutes before completion; however, it was blocked.
52 seconds before the final, KSC got its ninth goal of the game with junior forward Jennifer Erikson getting her first of the season.
The Owls ended the game at 9-0, and will now head to Biddeford, Maine to face the University of New England on Saturday, September 28.
