Delta Tau Delta’s (Delt) national organization chartered Keene State’s Delt colony, after over two years of the group working to establish itself in that capacity.
The formal recognition was given in Norma Walker Hall in the Alumni Center on Sunday, April 21.
Junior Charlie Baxter, Delt chapter president, said the charter will positively impact the group going forward.
“We’ll be a full-fledged fraternity, which I think will solidify us on this campus, we’ve been established here for a while now but I think it fully sets it in stone,” Baxter said.
The Equinox previously reported on March 7 the organization had to have at least 15 members, or 50 percent of the school’s average fraternity membership to have their chartering petition approved.
“Having that weight lifted will be really beneficial in allowing us to get back to focusing on the more normal aspects of fraternity life,” Baxter said.
With formal spring recruitment and Greek Week concluded Baxter said the future is bright for Delt on campus.
“We have a very tight-knit brotherhood and that’s appealing to a lot of people and then on the more larger, national scale, we have a ton of leadership opportunities,” Baxter explained.
One of the opportunities for Delt members on the horizon is the biennial Karnea conference hosted by the national organization this summer in Cleveland, Ohio.
“It gives a lot of students the opportunities to go out and meet people, get internships that could potentially lead to future employment,” Baxter said. “We’re super hyped, and we’re thankful for the help and the support that some of the other organizations on campus have provided us with.”
