Fresh faces could be seen up and down Appian Way on Saturday, March 25, Admitted Students Day.
The event, originally scheduled for March 4, but postponed due to inclement weather, saw students from across the state and the broader northeast who traveled hours to learn more about Keene State College.
The program started with a welcome address by Director of Admissions Peggy Richmond and President Dr. Melinda Treadwell in the Mabel Brown Room, followed by a student Q&A panel.
After the initial gathering, the program was rather freeform, allowing for students and their parents/guardians to walk to buildings of interest at their leisure from 12 p.m. and onward.
Students were encouraged to walk through the Owl Information Fair, where they could “meet staff and learn about student services and activities.”
Additionally, students were able to tour the three first-year residence halls, Huntress Hall, The Living and Learning Commons (LLC) and Carle Hall.
Admitted students were also able to eat a free meal courtesy of the Zorn Dining Commons.
The program also directed admitted students to “Meet the Majors”, which saw faculty and current KSC students among those tabling and offering information about various academic programs and organizations at the college.
Not all admitted students had a major in mind though, and some were still unsure if KSC would be their final choice in regard to continuing their academic career.
Rodger Peterman of Windsor, Vt. said he was still unsure if he would be attending KSC come the fall semester. “I haven’t really decided on a college yet, that’s kind of why I’m here today,” Peterman said, while also mentioning that the Exercise Science program piqued his interest.
Kyle Espinoza of Westchester, N.Y. said he was undecided on a major, but he’s certain that he will be attending KSC. “The Science Center interested me, and so did the library,” Espinoza said. “I’m very excited [to go to KSC].”
Lauren of Groveland, Mass. said she is planning on majoring in Business Management, and that the campus was a deciding factor for her. “I really like the campus and all that it offers here,” she said. Timothy Macgregor of Dover, N.H. also took an interest in the Business Management program.
“I just came from the business wing and the building seems nice, I like the classrooms,” Macgregor said, noting he was still unsure if he’d be attending KSC in the fall. “I’m not sure if I’m going here yet but it’s definitely a good option,” Macgregor said.
Julia of Durham, Conn. said she was made aware of KSC by a family friend, and that she plans on majoring in History. “I’m excited [to go to KSC],” she said. Logan Guillete of Auburn, N.H. said he plans on dual-majoring in Secondary Education and History.
“I had a lot of friends who were going here and it’s the teaching school,” Guillete said, in reference to KSC’s prominent education programs.
