Chock Full O’ Notes (CFON), Keene State’s Acapella group, is searching for new members to join their ensemble this year.
Auditions were held at the Redfern Arts Center, room 112 on Wednesday, Feb.1 from 8 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. Auditionees follow a simple procedure when it comes to the audition process. “Every person comes in one by one and they audition, [by singing] two snippets of songs they pick… [that] shows off their talent or showcases who they are, then we do a range check, and a blending exercise,” said senior Dominic Lynch, CFON president.
Although CFON has a certain number of members they like to recruit, sometimes they may recruit more or less than their original desired amount.
“We generally shoot for about 12 to 15 [members]. There have been years in the past where CFON has been around 20 to 25 and some years where we do 10,” Lynch said.
When auditioning for CFON, you do not need any prior singing experience – they are looking for fun individuals to join their musical group.
“I’m looking for someone who loves music and is someone who wants to have fun and enjoy the time that they spend with us,” said Lynch.
CFON members put in hours of rehearsing each week, but, as a result of the cold weather, many of them had gotten sick and were unable to perform at their winter concert last semester.
“When you’re missing 2 to 3 people, that’s a big loss. Unfortunately, the flu hit them really bad and there was nothing we could do about it, so we had to make the difficult decision to cancel it,” Lynch said.
“Our goal for this semester is to be able to prepare for our concert in the spring,” Lynch added.
Lynch said that CFON is not just a musical group that provides musical experience in an entertaining way.
“CFON has shaped my life in a lot of ways… I didn’t think it would affect my life the way it has. It has allowed me to be who I really am. It’s taught me so much about the power of a safe space and how much people can care,” Lynch explained. With auditions on the way, CFON is ready to greet future members.
