A new drop-in counseling option is now available at three campus locations.
Let’s Talk, a new counseling service provided through the Wellness Center, allows student to sit down with a member of the center’s counseling staff for a 15-minute meeting about anything the student needs to discuss, said Beth Aronson, assistant director for counseling.
The service is available every Monday through Wednesday for one-hour time blocks at three campus locations. Counselors will be stationed at the athletic training suite in the Spaulding Gymnasium on Monday from 2-3 p.m., the Cultural Center on Tuesday from 4-5 p.m., and Student Center 307 on Wednesday from 2-3 p.m.
These locations were selected in order to make the option accessible to students with busy schedules, Aronson said.
“It’s designed to be specifically out in areas on campus where students are going to be normally during their day,” she said. “It won’t interrupt the flow of their day, they won’t have to make an appointment, they won’t have to come over [to the Wellness Center], they can just pop in.”
By bringing Let’s Talk to frequently visited campus locations, Aronson said the goal is to expand counseling offerings to students who may not have time to fit a full one- hour session in their busy schedules.
Students have the option to make the 15-minute session anonymous if they prefer, according to Aronson. No medical record of the meeting will be documented and it will also remain confidential, aside from the guidelines set by the state’s exceptions to confidentiality in medical settings, Aronson said.
The Wellness Center plans to monitor demand for Let’s Talk services across campus and potentially add to the list of locations and times as they see fit.
