Keene State’s Film Society announced the fall season films for the Putnam Theater, containing a variety of genres and popular foreign directors.

The Putnam Theater is run by KSC’s Film Society, as they organized which films are being screened this season.

“We try to stay on the pulse of what’s coming up,” said Film Society President Wyatt Codd. “[The executive board] came in with 20 films each and we compared them and voted.”

The society is kicking off their season with Dean Fleischer Camp’s, Marcel the Shell with Shoes on,” playing at the Putnam Theater from Sept. 8 to 11.

This year’s season will also see an exclusive screening of Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s “Memoria.”

“We are the only theater in New Hampshire that has gotten to screen “Memoria”, Codd said. “… We really try to get as wide of a variety as possible to try to interest such a wide campus.”

The Putnam Theater will also be featuring Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, set to be screened the first weekend of October.

Additionally, “Willy’s Wonderland” featuring Nicholas Cage, will be screened.

“[Cage doesn’t] say a word the entire film, it’s not explained why but he’s just silent and it’s insane,” Codd said.

This season, the Film Society is trying to captivate audiences with films not typically shown in any ordinary theater.

“We want to hit as many bases as possible and do the best and the weirdest stuff we can buy,” Codd said.

In addition to the weekend screenings, the Film Society is holding weekly meetings, every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Putnam Theater.

“We ask everybody who’s coming to bring their own film that they want to watch and we put everything in a pool that gets mixed up,” Codd said. “Whatever wins is what we watch.”

Codd said he believes that films provide students with the opportunity to form connections.

“What I love about the Film Society is the community… there is something better about watching horrible films with other people,” Codd said. “You get so many unique interactions and things that only we can provide and it’s a great little niche.”

All films at the Putnam Theater are two dollars cash for students. For more information about screenings, visit @kscputnamtheater on instagram.
