Keene State College has been without a Dean of Students since former Dean of Students Gail Zimmerman stepped down at the end of the Spring 2021 semester.

Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Community Standards Matthew Salter also announced he would be leaving this semester.

However, according to KSC President Melinda Treadwell, the search to fll the positions of Dean of Students and Associate Dean of Students is going “very well.”

“My understanding is, we posted both the Dean and the Associate Dean together with the Assistant Dean of Students, so that both positions are posting at the same time so that we hire both people into those roles, knowing something about each candidate’s strengths,” Treadwell said.

Treadwell noted that from what she’s heard from the Cabinet, the pool of candidates is “strong.”

Despite KSC being a small, liberal arts college in a small city in New Hampshire, Keene State still sees a number of applicants.

Treadwell explained, “We had 140 applicants last year for the provost position and we attracted Dr. [James] Beebe from Southern Indiana University… I think we had about 85 applicants when we checked earlier this week, they’ll keep it open until they get the pool together and start inviting candidates. But I think we do get a very good opening.”

Treadwell also explained that the college is not using a search form and she expects the position of Dean of Students to be filled by late January to February 2022.
