KSC has confirmed two cases of the Omicron variant on-campus.
The confirmation comes on Tuesday evening in an email from President Melinda Treadwell.
“I [Treadwell] write at this time to share that I have received confirmation of two samples with the Omicron variant from last week’s surveillance testing. The individuals have been in isolation, and their contacts are in our monitor/re-test protocols. As with past changes in dominant variants, we are exhaustively reviewing our surveillance and rapid response team data on a daily basis. The COVID leadership team has briefed me, and I am confident that we have rapidly isolated the cases and have done our best to limit the transmission risks associated with these cases,” the email states.
The email goes on to state that three new cases were found from the nearly 500 samples tested Monday, December 13. The cases were close contacts of previous positives and were detected in our monitor and re-test protocols.
“We will continue to aggressively review our results and communicate actively if conditions change,” the email states.
KSC’s current protocols remain the same, and students can get tested a second time this week before going home for Winter Break.
