The good times will continue for the Keene State College women’s basketball team. The Owls remain perfect at 8-0 to open up the season.
Keene State defeated the University of Massachusetts Boston in overtime 68-56 on Saturday, December 12.
According to keeneowls.com the Owls got major scoring contributions from last week’s Little East Conference Player of the Week Kelsey Cognetta. Cognetta finished with 24 points and had 11 of those points in overtime.
The Owls were able to take advantage of a fast start, getting out to a 14-4 lead out of the gate. The Beacons were able to trim down the Keene State lead to 26-21 at halftime.
Junior Sandi Purcell contributed with 17 points on the afternoon and junior forward Sarah Kober grabbed 13 rebounds down low. Olivia Murphy, who scored 15 points off the bench, led the Beacons. In addition, Raven Kelsey and Chantel Jordan each scored 14 points.
The Owls were able overcome a five point deficit with 2:37 left to force overtime. In overtime, Keene State outscored UMass Boston 17-5.
With the win, Keene State improves to 2-0 in the Little East and the Beacons fall to 0-2 in LEC play and 6-3 overall. The Owls will look to remain perfect after the holiday break. They will be in Phoenix, Arizona, for the Arizona Shoot-Out to take on Worcester State on December 29.
