The Keene State College men’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls six game-winning streak to open the season was snapped by the University of Massachusetts Boston in Boston. The Owls fell to the Beacons by a score of 77-70.
According to keeneowls.com it was the first time all season that Keene State did not have lead. The Owls fell behind early 7-2, and could not overcome that deficit. Keene State was sloppy with the basketball in the contest as they committed 18 turnovers to the Beacons’s ten.

The leading scorer in the contest was Michael Campbell of UMass Boston, as he finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds. For the Owls, junior Lucas Hamel had 18 points to lead the Owls scoring.
Once again it was a balanced scoring attack for Keene State, as three other players finished in double figures. Senior center Nate Howard was one of them, as he finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds to record a double-double.
Keene State shot slightly better than the Beacons as they shot 41.7 percent from the field. The Beacons shot 39.7 percent from the field in the victory. Following the loss, the Owls fall to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in Little East play and the Beacons improved to 5-5 and 1-1 in the LEC. The Owls will be back in action after the holiday break in Phoenix, Arizona. Keene State will take on the defending national champions Wisconsin-Stevens Point who are currently ranked number nine in the country.
