Some Keene State College community members showed their school spirit through dance at the Presidential Inauguration on Friday, April 4. KSC’s Dance Team put on a flash mob in the L.P. Young Student Center in celebration of the inauguration.
Gabby Pacheco, senior and co-captain of the dance team, was in charge of choreographing the flash mob. Pacheco was very excited about the event.
“With this flash mob, we hoped to show what an exciting and fun school Keene [State College] is,” Pacheco said, “I really hope that everyone watching can see us coming together as a community to congratulate our new president.”
Pacheco continued, “We just hope to put a smile on everyone’s face and give them a special way to remember their experience at Keene State.”
The flash mob was meant to surprise everyone in the student center and get people excited about the new president, but it was not a random idea at all. According to Pacheco, President Anne Huot had hinted at the idea of a flash mob on campus before.
“William Seigh, the person coordinating the event, heard the president once talking about how she would like a flash mob,” Pacheco said.
She continued, “The topic was never brought up again, so this was a complete surprise for her that we [were] all very excited about.”
The flash mob also gave students a chance to become involved on campus.
Liz Leahy, senior and member of the dance team, felt obligated to partake in the flash mob for her school. Leahy said, “I think things like this are important to be a part of because they are things that make your experience at college worthwhile.”
Leahy continued, “Reflecting on my time here at Keene [State College], I can honestly say that becoming involved here was the best decision I could have made. College is where you discover yourself and grow.”
