S.A.C. selects performers for spring 2012 concert

Every year the Social Activities Council (S.A.C.) plans events that the school looks forward to having, and coming up is yet another one of those events. S.A.C. plans the annual fall and spring concerts, and Friday, April 20 is the date of this year’s next concert.
The committee has put much planning into trying to top the last concerts of the past. How are they going to do that?
“Well, this one is on a Friday” Colleen Butler said.
“Our last one was on a Sunday, and it made it hard for people to be able to go to it with all of their other things going on,” Butler said.
Many concerts tend to fall on Sundays because Sunday is when the performers are most likely to be off from any other previous commitments that they might have. While it is convenient for the artist, oftentimes it does not help to draw crowds. Many students have found Sundays difficult for events because they are tired from the weekend, have homework, or are returning from a weekend away from campus.
As for the artist, they picked something that the students wanted to see. Previously students had taken a survey, and the deciding answer was that they wanted an artist that would fall under the rap or hip-hop category.
The council really stressed on getting an act that would appease the majority of the students, attempting to get several different artists before settling on Chiddy Bang and Girl Talk as their final act. In addition will be a performance by Phunk Phenomenon, who is from the sixth season of America’s Best Dance Crew.
The council felt that getting a band the students wanted to see was very important and high on their list of priorities. After all, the students attending are really the ones who make the concerts as big as they have been in the past. While they are pleased with their artist selection, they had several problems with deciding who should perform.
“This year was just especially difficult because some of our top choice artists were touring in foreign countries, generally unavailable, or too expensive for our budget,” said Dayna Coleman, president of the Social Activities Council.
Finding an artist can be difficult, because it is hard to balance a popular artist with a price tag that also fits the school’s budget.
The surprise in this concert is going to be that 40 completely random students are going to get called up to the stage.
This is not planned ahead of time, there is no telling who is going to get called up and the exciting part of it is that they are going to be able to dance.
While there is no telling who will get called up, just showing up will automatically give students a chance to get called on. Even those who are still on the fence about going still have plenty of time to decide, since the event is not for another couple of months. However, the students that do choose to attend this year’s concert will not be disappointed.
The hip-hop styles of Chiddy Bang and the electronic mixed beats of Girl Talk are sure to leave a crowd with a performance worth remembering.
