Ultimately this is where KSC’s food waste issue rears the ugliest of its many heads. Excess uneaten food would not become wasted food if the college were able to donate it to a worthwhile outlet, and it isn’t that a worthwhile outlet doesn’t exist, but because of liability reasons we are prohibited from putting our uneaten food to use. The solutions seem clear cut: create waivers and get them signed, write a contract and open a line of communication between the college and the community kitchen. Until then, however, we are simply going to have to swallow the fact that our uneaten food will remain uneaten.
