On Feb. 28, President Donald Trump and Israel started a war with Iran. According to The Guardian, on the first day of the war, the U.S. sent a Tomahawk missile strike that hit an Iranian school. Within the first day of the U.S.-Israeli bombing, 175 lives were lost, most of them being children. Reporters believe that this was the doing of American forces. The U.S. is reportedly looking into the incident, while Israeli forces had no idea this occurred, according to the BBC.
The U.S. and Israel have had a long-standing rivalry with Iran, which has now escalated into a brutal war that has been going on for a month now.
On March 5, the U.S. deployed the N.H. National Guard to support the service members currently stationed in Iran, according to an article by New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR). Gov. Kelly Ayotte told reporters during a press conference that she was unable to share details as to why the N.H. National Guard was deployed, but she could not state how many members were active and what roles they would be playing.
In an article written by NBC Boston, it seems that the only information that Ayotte could give us is what we already knew–the Pentagon had deployed assets in the conflict with Iran, and New Hampshire’s National Guard is serving.
Ayotte told the Boston Globe, “We have to take [the Pentagon’s] recommendations on what can be released publicly because we don’t want to give the enemy any information that they shouldn’t have,” according to NBC Boston.
So far, all we know is that family members are being deployed into an ongoing war. We don’t know where they are, what they are doing or why they are there. We are expected to trust that the government will keep our troops safe while they fight in a war that never should have started. We are being left in the dark, not knowing how long this war will last or what is going to happen if we win or lose.
According to NBC Boston, reserve forces from around the country have been deployed in efforts to help. The reserves that were deployed also include the Vermont Air National Guard, where they were sent to the Middle East to aid in Operation Epic Fury, which is the name of the operation the U.S.-Israeli military force has called the bombings in Iran earlier this month.
There are so many people who are not in support of this war and who want more information on what is going on and what will happen in the future. Vidra Harris of Methuen, Massachusetts, spoke on her concerns about the uncertainty of what the Trump administration has been sharing about the operations in Iran in an NBC Boston article.
“It’s pretty amazing that this is our country, and we have the National Guard being activated for what doesn’t seem to be really good reasons,” said Harris.
“The Senate Republicans voted down an effort Wednesday to halt President Donald Trump‘s war against Iran, demonstrating early support for a conflict that has rapidly spread across the Middle East with no clear U.S. exit strategy,” according to NBC Boston.
We are a month into this war and three weeks away from when our reserves were first sent to Iran as aid for Operation Epic Fury, yet we still have so little information on what is going on. There seems to be no exit strategy to get our troops home safely. Hopefully this needless war comes to an end sooner rather than later and we get the answers to all of our questions soon.
