Keene State boasts a number of things that may attract potential students. One is its location–in the heart of downtown Keene, there is never a shortage of places to go and explore. Another is its academics–ranked number nine in Regional Colleges North, an Owl education is considered to be diverse and valuable.
However, there is one thing that many students say attracts them beyond all else: The on-campus experience. With around 60 student organizations present on campus, there are numerous events held every week for both resident and commuter students to seek out and enjoy. Students shared some of their favorite events that have been held so far this year that they have been able to attend.
“Fall Festival has been my personal favorite so far,” first-year Emerson Decato said. She noted that the blow-up activities that the event offered, such as “The Floor is Lava” were a highlight.
“I really liked Paint & Sip, that was a lot of fun,” first-year Sonya Frisbie shared.
While some on-campus events pop up once in a while, others can be counted on to be in operation regularly.
“I love bingo. I go every time they put it on,” sophomore Olivia Viola said. Her tablemate, sophomore Osman Cordero, also shared that they enjoy bingo.
“Bingo is a personal favorite of mine,” junior Shaylie Robles added. “I was able to win a TV at my high school’s bingo. It’s always fun to see what prizes are offered.”
Sophomore Chloe Stewart struggled to pick a favorite event, but eventually landed on “Karaoke!” in an exclamation of joy.
Senior Hannah Frost shared that she loved attending the annual senior-only Red and White Night event that occurred earlier this year. “It was a really fun night,” Frost said.
Some on-campus events are put on in the spirit of fun and connection, while others have an academic undertone that ties into students’ studies and furthers their career exploration.
“My favorite event that I went to this year so far was probably the Safety Job Fair,” senior Jacob Verra shared.
“Safety Job Fair was also my favorite, we all went,” Verra’s tablemate and fellow senior Connor Sanborn said.
“I’d also say the Safety Job Fair,” senior Devin Sen added.
While some students may have missed some of the events they shared that they enjoyed, the academic year is not over yet. Students can check in regularly with OwlNet and be on the lookout for event flyers around campus to stay up to date on what upcoming events they have to look forward to before the semester concludes.
