KSC’s Jewish Student Union (JSU) is designed to support Jewish life on campus, celebrating Judaism and Jewish culture and welcomes both Jewish and non-Jewish members.
Senior and Treasurer of Jewish Student Union Benjamin Harper shared JSU’s goal. “The club is meant to provide and act as a way for both Jewish and non-Jewish students to come together to learn about different values and holidays. Jewish Student Union is meant to be a way for people to learn about culture and history,” Harper said.
Harper spoke about the events JSU has hosted in the past and what he hopes the club will host in the future.
“Last year we did a Hanukkah celebration and a Passover get-together where we catered food and each one of us brought out our own food for Passover,” Harper said. “We were able to talk about what we wanted to do as a club in the future. This year was a bit rocky with fall semester, e-board members were busy. But so far we have had a couple of wellness meetings and drawing nights. This spring semester we are working to get things back on track. We have bingo night coming up on the 23rd as well as trivia night, and the plan with that is that we want to advertise it more as a club.”
Harper added how the club used to meet once a week, but is changing to twice a week. “Getting a meeting in for the spring semester is a bit tough but things are currently being worked out right now,” he said.
Harper finally shared how he is able to balance being in both JSU and Nutrition Club. “I am able to balance both clubs because I dropped my position as former social media coordinator, so it allows me to focus on Jewish Student Union club, but also be attentive to the Nutrition Club as well,” said Harper.
