Keene State’s Nutrition Club allows members and individuals to focus on nutrition and all things wellness. The club discusses healthy eating, relationships with food and hosts activities based around the topics. The club has been on campus for two years now and continues to make an impact on students.
Senior Grace Abbott, president and founder of Nutrition Club, shared an overview of the organization and the impact it has. “The focus of the nutrition club is to bring students together and educate on all things wellness. In the past we have done cooking nights, meal prepping practice as well as yoga night,” Abbott said.
Additionally, Abbott shared what nutrition means to her and what inspired her to create the club. “Learning how to listen to your body’s reaction and understanding your body’s relationship with food and how to use food to improve your overall wellness,” said Abbott. “I have a strong passion for nutrition and my major is Health Science Nutrition with a minor in Addiction, so creating the club allowed me to pursue my major even more.”
Abbott spoke on events coming up for the next week and what the rest of the spring semester will look like for the club. “Next week we will have a bingo night and a cooking night as well as a Pilates night coming up this semester,” Abbott said.
Abbott added how she has benefited from being president by learning about what it takes to be a leader and enriching her love for educating while bringing people together.
Another student, senior Benjamin Harper, shared what it is like being a member of the club. “Participating in activities where we meal prep or have wellness nights or homework nights, and learning about shopping lists and budgeting meals as a college student is beneficial for me,” Harper said. “I like how involved the club is with activities.”
Furthermore, senior and Vice President of Nutrition club Megan Plante and senior Grace Balwin shared the things they enjoy most about the club and the connection they feel with the group members through an email statement. “I love the Nutrition Club because of the community aspect,” Baldwin said. “I commute, so I am usually not on campus unless I am in class, so it gives me a reason to come hang out with people other than just in class. It is super nice to be able to chill with my classmates and get to know them outside of the classroom.”
Similarly, Plante shared, “I value the strong sense of belonging within the club and our e-board. As a small major, we spend a lot of time together and have developed close bonds. Our communication has improved throughout our second year, and I truly believe many of us will stay in touch even after we graduate.”
