With the first semester set in stone, the Redfern Arts Center is gearing up to begin the process of hosting three new performances for the spring semester.
On Feb. 4, the Redfern hosted the Screendance Roadshow once again, an event revolving around dance in film. It is a traveling short dance film series that changes every season, according to the Redfern events website.
On Monday, March 2, the Keene State College concert choir and chamber singers will be hosting Eastern Michigan University’s choir for a joint concert as part of Eastern Michigan University’s East Coast tour. This concert will be coordinated by Sandra Howard, a professor of music at Keene State.
During this concert, singers from both KSC and EMU will be performing five songs separately before joining at the end for two collaborative pieces.
“Our students get an opportunity to collaborate with a lot of other music ensembles, from middle school to high school, to professional choirs and community choirs. But they don’t get as often to perform with choirs of their own peer group,” Howard said.
The performance will be partnered by staff collaborative pianist Vladimir Odinokikh.
Any Keene State student who brings their student ID to the performance on March 2 will have free admission.
After that, the theatre production will be performing their spring show, “The Color of Our Lives” from April 4-7. The show, created by Professor Celine Perron, is a story half told by people, half told by puppets. Perron was not available for comment before the publication of this article.
Lastly, artistic director and choreographer Cynthia McLaughlin is leading the annual dance performance known as “Evening of Dance.” McLaughlin is the chair of the department of theatre and dance.
“I get to begin with nothing and create a whole world in collaboration with incredibly gifted artists and students while also being in community with others creating original work as well,” McLaughlin said.
The performance will take place in the Redfern Arts Center from April 16-18.
“Our students have the discipline and talent of conservatory students while bringing the inquiry and creativity to the process that our program fosters,” McLaughlin stated.
