There are a multitude of things that attract students to attend Keene State. The campus community, the 40+ majors offered and the many living options can all be a part of a student’s commitment to studying at KSC. But there’s something else that can influence a lot of individuals’ decision to attend this college – the town!
Keene State College sits right in the heart of downtown Keene, a place complete with classic New Hampshire-esque 19th-century architecture, restaurants that serve steaming cuisine from various cultures and shops that fulfill all the consumer’s desires.
Many students on the Keene State campus cite the downtown area as a contributing factor to their decision to come to this school, and some shared their personal favorite places to visit when heading downtown.
“I’d have to say the Toadstool Bookstore is my favorite,” sophomore Libby Wingett said.
“It’s gotta be Brewbakers for me,” Emma LeBourveau, another sophomore, said. Her choice was seconded by her tablemate, sophomore Grace St. Jean.
“Brewbakers is amazing,” St. Jean shared.
Many students gave downtown Keene’s food destinations a shoutout with their answers, including the Works Café.
“The Works Café is it for me,” junior Madi Mousley said.
“The Works is great,” sophomore Ella Maxwell said. She highlighted the café’s breakfast sandwiches in particular as a positive.
Sophomore Rosalyn Gordon also said the Works Café had a special place in her heart, while other students gave their favor to a different restaurant.
“I love that one Chinese restaurant downtown, Cherry Garden,” senior Matt Sissick shared, “their food is great.”
“I’d have to say Cherry Garden as well,” first-year Griffin Ford echoed.
One student couldn’t choose just one place. “I think for me, I’d have to say either Toadstool Bookstore or Synergy,” first-year Elle Macdonald said. “Synergy has really great clothes, and they have a bunch of Birkenstocks and Uggs and stuff- it’s an awesome shop.”
While definitive favorites vary among the student population, there’s no doubt that downtown Keene has a lot to offer. Anyone interested in visiting student favorites can simply take a stroll down Main Street and find what they’re looking for.
